Overall Job Objective


Under general supervision of the Irrigation Supervisor, the Maintenance Worker for Water Resources will perform various tasks within the Water Resources Division including duties for water conversation and the enforcement of water restrictions for the City of Frisco. This will include assisting licensed irrigators in the installation, maintenance and repair of city irrigation systems.

The intent of this position description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbent(s) in this position. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties in this description and incumbent(s) may be required to perform position-related tasks other than those specifically listed in this description.

Essential Job Functions & Other Important Duties

Essential Job Functions:

  • Patrols residential and commercial areas to enforce compliance with City water restrictions and other water conservation measures.
  • Conducts audits of water usage to monitor compliance with City and State water conservation and irrigation regulations and ordinances. 
  • Investigates reported water conservation restrictions, taking photographs, inspecting properties and issuing written violations to violators.
  • Tracks violations and investigations in computer database and written records.
  • Assists licensed irrigators in the installation, maintenance and repair of City irrigation systems.
  • Conducts routine inspections of irrigation and sprinkler systems to detect problems and maintain irrigation system.
  • Learns to install sprinkler systems.
  • Learns to read and review plan designs and specifications.
  • Organizes tools, equipment and supplies necessary to complete assignments.
  • Inspects, cleans and maintains equipment and tools in safe operating order.

Other Important Duties:
  • May be required to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Travels to attend meetings and training.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential.

Job Requirements

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of computers and related equipment, hardware and software.
  • Knowledge of City policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of irrigation safety practices and procedures.
  • Skill in basic mathematics.
  • Skill in effective oral and written communications.
  • Skill in operating assigned equipment and tools.
  • Skill in resolving customer complaints and concerns.
Preferred Education, Experience, and Certifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED and one year maintenance experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical agility, criminal background and MVR check.
  • Must possess valid State of Texas Drivers License.

Visual Acuity 2 - color, depth perception, field of vision. 
Kneeling - bending legs at knee to come to rest at knees.   
Visual Acuity 3 - determine accuracy, neatness, observe facilities/structures.
Lifting - raising objects from lower to higher position, moving objects side to side, using
upper extremities, back.   
Visual Acuity 4 - operate motor vehicles/heavy equipment.
Mental Acuity - ability to make rational decisions through sound logic, deductive reasoning. 
Visual Acuity 5 -close acuity for inspection of small defects, machines, use measurement devices, or fabricate parts. 
Pulling - use upper extremities to exert force, haul or tug.   
Walking - on foot to accomplish tasks, long distances, or site to site. 

Work Environment 
Work performed is primarily: 
Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force  occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. 

Equipment and Tools Utilized:
  • Equipment utilized includes small hand/power tools and equipment specific to area of assignment, digital camera, personal computer, copier, calculator, fax machine and other standard office equipment. City Vehicle.
